Bae Yong Joon was named an honorary curator of the Iwayama Lacquer Art Museum in Japan.
Bae Yong Joon quietly sneaked into Japan last February to learn lacquer art from the museum’s operator, Jun Yong-bok.
Master Jun, who is Korean, has gained worldwide recognition for his work and his Iwayama Lacquer Art Museum is reportedly the largest of its kind in the world.
Bae’s agency revealed that, “Bae Yong Joon learned the entire lacquer painting process firsthand, and as the honorary curator of the museum, is determined to promote lacquer art and hone his skills as well as bring lacquer art closer to the public.”
Currently Bae Yong Joon is writing a book on Korean culture, which will be published later this year.
In addition, BYJ's voice will be used in the animated version of the highly-popular drama Winter Sonata along with co-star Choi Ji Woo.
